Common Visa Terminologies

 

If you are new to international travel, there are words associated with visas you should know, understanding these terms would help with your visa application.

Visa type
Visas are of different categories, immigrant and non-immigrant visas. Non-immigrant visas include work Visas, study visas, transit visas, business visas, tourist visas. Knowing the different types of visas is important for international travels.

Visa validity
Visa validity is the duration in which a visa is still valid. The period as to which it can be used to enter or stay in a country.

Visa application
Is the process of applying for a visa, it involves submitting the required documents and filing the visa application form.

Visa processing
This is the time or how long it takes to process your visa application. The processing time differs for countries and visa types. A study visa usually has a shorter processing time than that of a work visa.

Visa Application Fee
This is the amount charged by the authorities for visa application.

Visa Interview
An official meeting with an immigration officer to discuss your visa application. Applicants are usually informed of visa appointments before time.

Visa Approval
A notification stating your visa has been approved. Always good to keep track of your application.

Visa Denial
A notification stating your visa application has been rejected, the reason(s) for this is always mentioned.

Schengen Visa
A schengen visa allows you to travel across the 26 countries under the European Schengen area. You can travel from omr Schengen country to another without needing a separate visa.

Biometrics
Biometric data such as fingerprints or other physical characteristics needed for visa processing.

Proof of Funds (POF)
This is a bank statement showing a sufficient amount of funds that you can use to support or sustain yourself throughout your stay in a foreign country.

Single Entry Visa
A single entry visa allows you to enter a particular country once. If you wish to travel to the same destination, you would have to apply again.

Multiple Entry Visa
A multiple entry visa allows you multiple entries into a particular country.

Visa Renewal

The process of applying for a new visa when the previous one is about to expire. Best to apply before expiration.

Visa Expiration

This is the date in which a visa is to expire.

Visa Eligibility

These are the requirements/qualifications a person must have to be granted a visa. This is relative to country and visa type.

Sponsorship

An individual or organization that supports a visa application.
