Common Visa Interview Questions

There are general questions that are mostly asked during a visa Interview, although it may vary slightly depending on the type of visa, country and interviewer.

However these are commonly asked questions in visa interviews:

1.What is the purpose of your trip?: The interviewer wants to know the reason of your trip. You should be able to state the specific ‘WHY’. It could be for study, work or leisure. The interviewer may choose to ask you more questions about why you choose that particular country to work, study or tour.

2. How long do you plan to stay in your destination country?: Once the purpose of trip has been established, the interviewer would want to know the duration of your stay. So you have to state an exact time in which you would be able to accomplish your purpose. Take for an example, you are going for undergraduate study, you may want to suggest 4 to 5 years.

3. What are your travel plans?: The interviewer wants to know the travel arrangements you have in place already. Provide your travel itinerary outlining your evidence of booked flights, hotel reservations and other travel activities. This will show preparedness for your trip

4. What are your plans after your Visit: Note that the visa you are applying for has an expiry date. The interviewer would be interested in knowing your next step when your visa expires. Clearly state what you plan on doing after your trip. You may easily say your return plans.

5. Do you have any international travel experience?: This depends on whether you have traveled out to other countries before. If you have, share your unique experience or skills you gained during your previous travels. You may even provide evidence to further highlight your experience such as pictures or documents.

6. Do you have ties to your home country?: show evidence of strong connections to your homeland such as your family, properties or businesses. This would demonstrate further your intentions to return home.

7. Do you have family/friends in your destination country?: if you have ties in your destination country, you can mention them.

8. How do you plan to support yourself?: Provide evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself while you are over there such as bank statements, sponsorship letters. Make sure you have all these handy

9. Can you provide your documents to support your application?: Ensure you take along your required documents such as your valid passport, photographs, travel insurance and others.

Be honest and transparent with your answers, show confidence and enthusiasm while speaking as it would increase a successful visa application.
